About this Appointment

This is the correct first appointment to book

This is the standard first consultation for all new patients, whatever your reason for attending.

If you are experiencing pain, discomfort, restricted movement, fatigue, stress-related symptoms, or an issue that hasn’t resolved as expected, this is the right place to start.

You do not need a diagnosis or a clear plan before coming.

That is what this session is for.

What this first session is like

This is a calm, careful, non-invasive first appointment.

Treatment is gentle and unforced, focused on helping the body settle, regulate and begin moving out of stuck or protective patterns. Nothing is rushed, and nothing is pushed.

Some people notice a sense of ease or lightness afterwards. Others simply feel calmer or more grounded. Experiences vary and outcomes are never assumed.

The intention of this first session is not to “fix everything”, but to create stability, clarity and a sensible direction forward.

What people commonly book this appointment for

People attend with a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Back, neck, shoulder, hip, or joint pain
  • Nerve-related symptoms or restricted movement
  • Stress-related tension or nervous system overload
  • Sleep disturbance or persistent fatigue
  • Digestive discomfort
  • Longer-term patterns that have plateaued elsewhere

Many people arrive unsure exactly what will help, but clear that waiting, pushing through, or guessing is no longer enough.

A whole-system clinical approach

Chinese medicine is a complete medical system that looks at how symptoms, general health, recovery capacity and daily life interact.

Rather than isolating a single issue, this session looks at what may be contributing to your situation as a whole and what needs to change for things to begin shifting.

This often helps people feel more oriented and less at the mercy of their symptoms, even before physical changes are felt.

What to expect on the day

Your first appointment includes both a full clinical assessment and your first treatment in one session.

We begin with a conversation about what has been going on for you - your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and anything you feel is relevant. This helps build a clear picture before treatment begins.

You are welcome to ask questions at any point.

Gentle and unforced treatment

Treatment is calm, careful and responsive.

You will usually be lying down or comfortably supported. Nothing is done without your consent and nothing is pushed through discomfort.

If you feel unsure, uncomfortable, or simply want to pause, we stop.

About acupuncture needles

Acupuncture needles are extremely fine - closer to hair-like filaments than to hypodermic needles.

People’s experiences vary. Common sensations include a dull ache or heaviness, warmth, tingling, or a gentle spreading or settling sensation. Some people feel very little at all.

Acupuncture is used as the primary treatment approach. Where appropriate, other gentle, non-needle techniques may be incorporated.

Pace, comfort, and control

This is a calm, unrushed clinical space.

Many people feel apprehensive before a first appointment, especially if symptoms have been intense, unpredictable, or ongoing. That is completely normal.

With over 20 years of clinical experience, sessions are approached safely, carefully and at your pace. You remain in control throughout.

Appointment length

This is a 90-minute clinical appointment, scheduled as a 1 hour 45-minute booking to allow time for assessment, treatment, settling and rest, aftercare guidance and clinical notes.
